Why these words and not random ones
Most Pictionary word generators pull at random from a dictionary. That sounds fine until someone draws “notwithstanding” and the round dies. A word only works in Pictionary if it has a shape — something a rough sketch can suggest in under a minute.
Every word in this generator has been picked by hand and checked against that test, then sorted into a difficulty level. Roughly 200 words across three levels. The Easy list is concrete and childproof. Medium is where most family games sit. Hard is deliberately mean: abstract nouns, concepts and situations with no obvious shape, for groups who have played enough that easy words are boring.

Ten categories: object, animal, food, action, place, nature, sport, job, emotion and concept. Filtering to one category is how you run a themed round — animals only for a children’s party, or jobs only as an icebreaker at work. Leave it on All categories for a normal game.
How to play Pictionary without the board game
You do not need the boxed set. You need paper, a pen, a timer and words.
- Split into two teams. Teams take turns.
- One person from the active team is the drawer. They look at the word — tap
Reveal word on this page — and do not say it out loud. - Tap Start timer. The drawer sketches. No letters, no numbers, no speaking, no gestures.
- Their team guesses out loud. If they get it before the timer runs out, they score a point.
- Tap New word and swap to the other team.

House rules worth adding
- All play. Both teams guess at once on a shared word. Fast and loud.
- Two-hand round. The drawer uses their non-dominant hand. Levels the field.
- Silent gallery. Anyone who blurts the word from the wrong team loses their team a point.
- Escalating difficulty. Start on Easy, move to Medium at five points, Hard at eight.

What are good Pictionary words?
Concrete nouns are easiest — a lighthouse, an octopus, a fire hydrant. They have a recognisable shape, so a rough sketch still reads. Abstract ideas like patience or inflation are hard because there is nothing to draw, which is exactly why they sit in the Hard list here.
How many words are in the generator?
Around 200 across three difficulty levels and nine categories. Every one has been checked for whether it can actually be drawn, which is the difference between this and a generator that pulls at random from a dictionary.
What is the right difficulty for kids?
Easy. Those words are everyday objects, animals and foods that a six-year-old can both draw and guess — apple, cat, house, rainbow. Medium suits mixed-age family games. Hard is for groups who play often and want to lose.
How long should a Pictionary round be?
Sixty seconds is standard and it is the default here. Ninety works better with younger children or larger teams. You can set anything from 10 to 300 seconds.
Can I print the words as cards?
